This upcoming exhibition celebrates 50 years of Star Wars with a behind-the-curtain peak

It’s been nearly five decades since audiences first saw Luke Skywalker gazing into Tatooine’s twin suns, and now the Franklin Institute is offering audiences a peek behind the curtain. Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Across the Galaxy is a new exhibition celebrating 50 years of movie magic, and it will officially premiere in Philadelphia early next year.

According to LucasFilm and the Franklin Institute, this will be “the largest and most comprehensive behind-the-scenes exhibition celebrating the Star Wars galaxy.” With many different exhibits, it will feature over 70 iconic props and artifacts from the film. You can check out legendary pieces like Vader’s screen-worn costume, a speeder bike, models of R2-D2, and much more.

It’s a must-have for any Star Wars fan, as well as anyone who likes to learn the real process behind the on-screen magic. In addition to the featured props, the exhibition also charts “the evolution from analogue ingenuity to digital reinvention and highlights the voices of early creators.”

The exhibition will open on February 13, 2027 and run through September 6 at the Franklin Institute. Tickets will go on sale from November this year, although members will get advance access from October. After the initial run, it will begin a five-year tour across North America.
