The star of the show is the Megalodon Driver that features a bright blue end cap that iFixit calls the Swivel Grip Cap. The screwdriver is able to rotate freely while holding the cover in place to secure it, allowing you to quickly remove screws. When you need a little more power to tighten screws or other fasteners, pressing on the rotating handle cap locks it in place, allowing you to apply more torque and force to the driver with your hand. As iFixit points out, the Megalodon can be used as either a rotary motor or a fixed motor as needed, without having to remember which way you need to adjust the ratchet mechanism.
Along with the motor, the new set comes with 16 pieces with 2-inch longer shanks, making it easier to access fasteners inside hardware or buried behind panels. iFixit says the included parts have been “hand-selected” to work with “the fasteners people actually encounter during home repair, furniture assembly, car patching, and general DIY.” The selection includes a variety of Phillips, Flathead, Hex, and Square bits, several TR 6-point bits, and a quarter-inch socket adapter.
As with other iFixit kits, the driver and parts all come packaged in a foam tray with large white print making it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. The entire kit comes in a plastic case with a magnetic lid that can be used as a sorting tray for screws and other fasteners to help reduce the risk of misplacing them mid-project.
