Apple is all set to host its annual conference Worldwide Developers Conference Next week, the long-awaited announcement is expected to be made Update Siri. As much as I’m excited for the smart assistant to finally work like it was supposed to work all these years,… iOS 27 A sneak peek will likely confirm Apple’s next big launch: Ultra foldable iPhone.
I say this because iPhones have lagged behind their Android counterparts in true multitasking capabilities. They certainly have a dynamic island that pops up important information by pressing and holding without leaving the current app. But it’s not like running multiple apps side by side at once or one app on top of the other. These use cases are essential for large displays Foldable phones – Or even large panel phones for that matter. This limitation on iOS is one of the reasons I think the 6.9-inch screen real estate on the Pro Max models isn’t being utilized to its full potential. But that may change at next week’s WWDC conference.
According to A Bloomberg reportApple’s foldable iPhone will have an “iPad-like interface when unfolded.” It can support running two apps side by side and adding sidebars to multiple apps. We’ve never had an iPhone that runs multiple apps on screen at once, and if Apple shows off such an example at WWDC 26, it will likely signal the launch of an iPhone with a larger — and hopefully foldable — screen.
However, iOS 27 needs more than just an iPad-like multitasking UI to take advantage of its larger screen. After using most of the foldable phones launched in the past five years, I have some feedback for Apple to maximize the potential of the big screen.
Multitask with intuitive window management
The Oppo Find N6 can run three apps simultaneously and several others as pop-ups.
the OPPO Find N6 It is my favorite foldable phone. It has an anti-reflective screen for improved outdoor clarity, a large battery that lasts all day, and above all, a software experience that makes it a multitasking powerhouse. It’s much more than just a simple split screen at your disposal. That’s not to say I don’t use split-screen multitasking but running two apps side by side isn’t ideal when you have to write one app (like Google Docs). Once the keyboard appears, you will have less space to type.
Oppo and OnePlus solved this problem in 2023, when you could run two apps side by side and a third app in full screen mode at the bottom. It lets me reference research material from a web page in the left half of the screen and launch a PDF in the other half, while also launching Google Docs at the bottom for writing my story on the go.
The latest Find N6 takes it to the next level with the Free-Flow Window feature, which lets you run up to four apps simultaneously in resizable windows. Is four applications too much? Yes. But does this make sense? Yes too. I thought it was overrated until I got to the airport and had to submit my bills urgently. I opened Google Sheets (to create the invoice), Calculator (to calculate my monthly tax income), Keep (to take tax notes), and Chrome (to review my published work).
I can do all this on a phone tablet by constantly switching between each app. However, being able to run all these applications without exiting another application and resize them to your liking really helps save time and effort. I’ve also used this feature to take notes while attending meetings and reference shared PDF files simultaneously.
I’d like to have this feature on the iPhone Fold with an iPad-like taskbar at the bottom. It can make my iPhone Ultra look like an iPad Mini when it’s unfolded but it fits in my pocket.
More iOS tweaks for intuitive use
The sidebar may not be great on tablets but it can help you be more productive on foldable phones.
the iOS 27 redesign It can touch Siri, Search, Camera, Safari, Weather, Photo Stadium, and more. And for the sake of the iPhone Fold’s larger screen, I hope it will also add a couple of things to the system’s UI.
Firstly, I would like to get… Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7-Like a sidebar. It may not seem very useful in theory, but every foldable phone has this feature now, and it’s for good reason. when Define artificial intelligence It was first introduced on a Samsung phone, and was only accessible through the sidebar. this Galaxy artificial intelligence The feature allowed me to highlight part of my current screen and suggest contextual actions.
For example, I used it to add calendar events from my emails. I can open an email invitation, swipe the sidebar to access AI Select, and highlight event information to automatically get the date, time, and address in my calendar app. Unless you’ve enabled Gemini on your Gmail account, you’ll need to add these details manually to create a calendar event.
I also use the sidebar to access the Files app and other pop-up apps (like Calculator), which I don’t have on the taskbar. While the Bloomberg report said the sidebar could make its way into certain apps, I’d like system-wide access so I can use it on top of on-screen content, regardless of which app I’m currently using.
Honor’s expanded folders allow me one-click access to up to five apps while grouping them together.
Secondly, I want more smartphone manufacturers to borrow Honor’s expanded folders. It helps keep apps within one-click access, while also allowing me to group them. It’s the best of both worlds – having a folder as well as a single app icon on the screen.
This feature has been adopted by more Android skins in the past year but most are limited to three apps. Honor allows me to add up to five apps in a folder that expands vertically or horizontally, which collects my favorite apps without having to click on a folder to access them. It’s a great feature that I’ve missed a lot since I returned home iPhone 17 Pro Max. The best thing I can do on the iPhone now is bring apps closer together, or use them Smart stack To put some tools together.
These iOS 27 additions will make Apple’s upcoming foldable device easier to use and help increase the utility of the big screen. Hopefully we’ll get a first look at some of them next week at WWDC 26, along with some more exciting ones iOS 27 features. Either way, it’s going to be a busy week for Apple software!
