Make Instagram a separate company. Buy Snapchat. Wipe everyone’s friends on Facebook. Create a feed for ads only.
These were some of the ideas that Meta Mark Zuckerberg considered over the years while building his empire on social media. Over the past two days, they talked about the position of witnesses in a federal court in Washington, DC, where Meta is fighting the Federal Trade Committee in the anti -monopoly case that may eventually require the sale of Instagram and WhatsApp.
Zuckerberg has seen so far for about nine hours. It is expected to continue the certificate on Wednesday, followed by Sherrill Sandberg. So far, FTC prompted him to confirm its theory of the market and understand its motives to gain our emerging competitors.
FTC theory in the case is that Meta faded newer competitors by buying Instagram and WhatsApp in early 2010, when they are afraid to grow to challenge its hegemony. The agency is trying to show that Meta has a monopoly power in the market called personal social media services, which focuses on communicating with friends and family and includes Snapchat and MEWE applications.
Meta argues that FTC has formulated a designed definition for the market for the sake of the company. During his testimony on Tuesday, Zuckerberg has politely resisted questions from FTC, which sought to establish her outlook on the market. He believed that he believes that the market is “liquid” but Tiktok, YouTube and IMessage are its adult competitors at the present time.
On several occasions, FTC referred to Marketing Language Meta used to connect its role in linking friends and family and tried to distinguish between Facebook and services like LinkedIn. Zuckerberg rarely provided answers from one word and will annoy the nuances of how he believes that Meta products interfere with many other services. Facebook definitely announces itself as a place to communicate with friends on his registration page, but this may be just the description line that has been positively tested. While LinkedIn himself as a service directed towards a job, Zuckerberg pointed out that some of its features interfere with Meta.
Other documents submitted in the trial gave a background story for the big decisions that Mata made over the years, as well as seeing what some alternative facts may look like. Meta Snapchat may also have, as Evan Spiegel accepted Zuckerberg of $ 6 billion in late 2013.
Zuckerberg suggested the idea of wiping user friends to try the joy of starting from scratch
Another FTC theory is that Meta was able to increase the download of ads over time because its users do not have alternative services. Zuckerberg suggested that Meta at some time thought about making feeding for ads only because its users believe it is good like normal content.
Next, there are messages that Zuckerberg exchanged with senior executives about the decisions that the company has already taken.
FTC provided internal documents that showed that Zuckerberg was afraid that his company was behind the rapid growth of Instagram, and that it worries that correspondence applications such as WhatsApp can be ultimately used to infringe on the field of social media. In court, he argued that his acquisitions of these applications made her to what they are today.
