You can finally buy Snap’s new AR spec for $2,195

Snap – Maker Popular social app Snapchat has a new pair of smart augmented reality glasses called Specs. For real this time.

Snap CEO Evan Spiegel revealed the new glasses at an event during Enhanced World Expo (AWE) Technology Conference in Long Beach, California. like pop To frame it, this isn’t a prototype or developer device — it’s the first actual consumer version of Specs AR glasses, unlike the previous generation which was sold exclusively to developers and creators.

Specification costs $2195. You can pre-order it now with a refundable deposit of $220. Snap says it expects the devices to ship this fall in the US, UK and France.

Snap has not yet mentioned which apps or features will be available in the new specs. The company’s focus in these glasses is less on capturing content and more on on-screen AR experiences, which are layered with just the right depth and low latency to feel like a moving part of the environment. Snap has demonstrated a lot of experimental features in its previous beta units, such as drawing with your fingers in the air, following map directions, or manipulating a 3D model of the globe. The company says this unit will have some of the same features, including private displays, Bluetooth capability, web browsing, AI-powered visual assistance, and a “wide range” of augmented reality experiences that understand the room and objects around the wearer. Other than that, Snap has yet to explain what these specs can do. It depends on whether developers buy to build on the platform.

“The specifications will make sense because of the lenses you make,” Spiegel said on stage at AWE.

New specifications

The Snap’s specs are chunky, with large rims, honking arms, and thick temple tips. It looks a bit like Meta’s beefy Ray-Ban Display glassesalbeit at more rounded angles. The specs also have an AR display that covers a 51-degree field of view in the center of your vision, as opposed to the lower screen of the display.

The look is a more refined version of Snap’s boxy look Augmented reality glasses The company has been making it available to developers since 2024. It’s also pretty good for a company that doesn’t have fashion partnerships like Meta and Essilor Luxottica or Google collaborations with Warby Parker and the cute monster.

“Some would actually say that oversized glasses are the trend right now,” Spiegel told WIRED in an interview before AWE. “For us, it’s less about following trends and more about offering truly differentiated capabilities.”
