Xreal’s budget AR glasses feature anti-vibration technology and interchangeable frames

Xreal, the provider of augmented reality wearables, has launched a new device “X by Xreal(XBX) sub-brand, with the first lightweight, customizable smart glasses coming to the US in July. The new a01 AR glasses will be available starting at $299, and feature a “high-grip anti-shake mode” and interchangeable front frames.

While the a01 lacks Degrees of freedom (DoF) that we typically see on more premium augmented reality glasses to track the wearer’s movements and head rotations, it includes what Xreal calls an “industry-first spatial anti-shake algorithm.” This maintains image clarity by reducing judder during turbulent movements, such as when you’re riding the subway or on a flight, which helps prevent visual content from appearing grainy or blurry.

The interchangeable front bezels come in three designs – Sport, Stealth, and Classic – and can be swapped out to match the device to specific clothing. Xreal hasn’t said whether it can be purchased separately, or how much it will cost. We’ve seen interchangeable frames before on glasses like See AirGo Solosalthough the options offered by the XBX seem more extensive in comparison.

Xreal also says the a01 weighs about 62 grams (about 2.1 ounces) and features a 1,600 nits HDR10 display. We should note that the a01, like other Xreal AR glasses, doesn’t come with a built-in battery, so you’ll need to be happy to watch content while the glasses are connected to your phone or laptop via a wired connection.
