WhatsApp can now craft AI-generated responses based on your conversations

WhatsApp is rolling out a slew of new features and updates, including one that generates AI-powered suggested replies based on your conversations. The Meta-owned messaging platform is also launching other features, including a new way to free up space, the ability to enhance photos with Meta AI, and more.

But the most notable is the app’s update to the “Writing Assist” feature that helps users draft messages. Help with writing, which It was first launched last Augustactually helps users rephrase, proofread, or adjust the tone of their messages. On Thursday, the Meta-owned company said in a blog post that this latest update will help users get their message “right.”

Meta is likely hoping people will use in-app technology when crafting messages, rather than external tools like ChatGPT. Naturally, not everyone will want to use the new feature, as users will likely prefer real, personal conversations with friends and family rather than AI-generated messages. (Using AI to write an email is one thing, using it to send messages in a family group chat is another!)

The company claims that chats remain private even if people use typing assistance.

To access the feature, users tap the chat bar, select the stickers icon in the writing field, then tap the pencil with the sparkling dust icon that denotes the AI feature.

As for freeing up space, WhatsApp can now help users find and delete large files directly within any chat. This means that users can get rid of what they don’t need without having to clear entire conversations. For example, they can choose to clear only media files when clearing a chat, keeping the chat history intact.

The company also announced that users can now use Meta AI to edit photos directly in chat. This will allow users to do things like remove something distracting in the photo, change the background, or apply a new style.

Additionally, WhatsApp now supports the option to transfer chat history from iOS to Android, as well as within the same platform. Additionally, users have the option to log into two WhatsApp accounts at the same time on iOS, which is already possible on Android.

Stickers on WhatsApp are also getting an update, as WhatsApp will now suggest specific stickers to users while typing emojis so they can replace them with a sticker.

WhatsApp says these new features are rolling out now and will be available to all users soon.
