Sony owner The PlayStation brand has been accused of antitrust practices. The lawsuit was originally settled in 2024 but was rejected twice during the approval process. Last week a judge consent Tentative reopening of the settlement.
The lawsuit, filed in the San Francisco Division of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, accuses the company of restricting third-party retailers from selling PlayStation titles via “game-specific coupons.” This means preventing customers from buying games elsewhere and forcing them to make digital purchases only on Sony’s PlayStation Network, where it controls prices without worrying about competitors.
The settlement means that the company was not accused of any wrongdoing, but will have to pay approximately $8 million to affected players. Unfortunately, this may take some time.
Here’s what to know about the settlement and whether you could get any money from it. (Full details are in the PlayStation Digital Games Settlement Website.)
If you purchased a digital game on PlayStation Network between April 1, 2019 and December 31, 2023, you may be eligible for a portion of the settlement.
You can find a Full list here Of the games eligible for settlement payouts.
If you played anything around that time and purchased it from the PSN Store, you probably had a chance of being included. Games included The last of us, Resident Evil 4And a lot of sports games like several generations of Madden, NBA 2K, and FIFA
Fortunately, you won’t have to do much. When settlement is finally completed, funds will be deposited into the payment accounts associated with all eligible PSN profiles.
If you wish to exclude yourself from payment, or object to it completely, you can do so by submitting a request Written request. This is not necessary unless you have an ethical issue with the payment, or plan to sue Sony over the same issue later. By default accepting payment now means you waive the right to sue Sony over it in the future.
If your PSN account has been deactivated or MIA, but you know you purchased games that meet the terms of this settlement, you still have options to get some rewards. You can call (877) 777-9145 or email (email protected). You can also send your eligible purchase information and current address to:

The deadline to submit this check request is August 27, 2026.
Maybe not much, unfortunately. The $7.85 million will be divided among the legal representatives who argued the settlement, and then distributed evenly across millions of people’s PSN accounts. It’s hard to say exactly how much that will be, but it’s likely a few dollars at best.
The settlement hearing will not take place until the fair hearing, currently scheduled for October 15, 2026. If that is completed, it could take additional weeks or months for the funds to be distributed.
Class action lawsuits are not consumer friendly most of the time. They certainly don’t tend to be timely. This was the exact settlement Ranked first In December 2024, but two applications for approval were rejected. The settlement language originally stated that payments would be distributed after April 1, 2025. As you can probably tell, the wait is far from over.
