You’ll be forgiven if you watch Samsung Unpacked 2025 It happened Wednesday and I thought it was a presentation on artificial intelligence. Within the first ten minutes of the presentation, the word “AI” was mentioned at least a dozen times, and that number rose dramatically as the presentation went on. The new company said Galaxy S25 phone line It would be full of AI features, but all I could think was “How do I get rid of them?”
“We built the AI (operating system) from the ground up,” TM Roh, head of Samsung’s mobile division, said during the event. “One UI 7, our most personalized interface, redefines mobile interaction because we have deeply integrated AI agents at the system level.”
But I don’t want AI on my phone. I don’t find it helpful or useful in any way, and I’m not alone.
A CNET poll It found that only 14% of Apple and Samsung smartphone users think these features are useful. And when you ask people to use these tools Glue for making pizza Or they are advised to eat at least one small rock a day, and you can see why they find it unpleasant to use.
This false and misleading information is called hallucinations, and is a known problem in artificial intelligence. About two years ago, Google Gemini –It was called cool at the time– Incorrectly said NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has captured the first images of an exoplanet outside our solar system. (In fact, it took more than a decade before the James Webb Space Telescope was launched.)
“As we’ve said from the beginning, hallucinations are a known challenge for all JWST holders,” Google said in a statement about JWST. “There are cases where AI gets things wrong.”
You can also take a photo of your dog.
not to mention Abandoned pictures These AI tools can create… These tools can create meaningless, incoherent, and sometimes terrifying images. The images are like something you would see in a fever dream or… H.R. Geiger Nightmares.
And when Samsung said in its Unpacked presentation that the Galaxy S25 line of phones would be there Extended battery lifeI thought, “We’re going to need it with all these AI features.”
Aside from privacy and Copyright issuesI don’t use AI on my phone or devices because it always does more work for me. If I ask a digital assistant to set an alarm, I check to make sure the alarm time is correct. If I use an assistant to send someone a message, I read that message before sending it in case I have to edit it.
As for the photo creation features, these are novelties that I might use once as a party trick but will never use again – and that includes Apple’s Jinmoji. I have used AI image generation tools many times in my job, but besides that I can confidently say that I have never used them.
Look, all I’m asking for is a switch to turn these features off. It’s not that difficult, and I’m sure others will turn to online message boards asking how to turn these features off. Apple has already implemented a switch to turn off Apple Intelligence features on its iPhones, so we know it can be done. If there is no way to turn these features off, I would seriously consider buying one of the new Galaxy phones.
