Vivo launches the X300 Ultra phone designed for professional photography

Vivo launched the X300 Ultra in China today, the company’s latest flagship phone that puts the ‘camera’ in a camera phone. The device is designed for “professional photography,” according to Vivo’s press release, and features a range of Zeiss camera lenses optimized for specific shooting styles, including telephoto, wide-angle, and video photography.

My colleague Dom got it An early look at the improved telephoto extended lens and professional camera cage of the X300 Ultra At MWC this year, but we now have more specifications for the phone itself. The big story here is the camera array. The X300 Ultra features a “ZEISS Master 3+2 lens array” built around some massive sensors. These include a 14mm ultra-wide camera (Sony LYTIA 818), a 35mm “documentary camera” (Sony LYTIA 901), and an 85mm “Gimbal-Grade APO Telephoto” camera that has a 200-megapixel Samsung HP0 sensor. Optical image stabilization is offered across all its focal lengths.

On the video front, the X300 Ultra Multi-Focal 4K 120fps 10-Bit Log Video supports and is compatible with ACES professional post-production workflows. Audio is recorded using a quad microphone, with wireless microphones also supported.

The phone itself is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and includes a 6,600 mAh battery. It’s available in five variants ranging from 12GB to 16GB of memory and 256GB to 1TB of storage, and comes in three color options: black, silver and green.

What we don’t know yet is the price. Vivo has promised to launch the X300 Ultra “in global markets” later this year, which will make this the first Ultra phone Vivo has launched outside of China. This doesn’t guarantee it will be available in the US, but at least there’s hope
