Valve just imported 50 tons of game consoles in two days

While Valve’s logistics partners have faced a dearth of shipments after Christmas 2025, they appear to be ramping up their efforts again, with nearly 100 tons of product transported to the US over the past two months. During that period, cargo ships with names like Ever Logic and Ever Shine brought ten 40-foot containers from China to Los Angeles, California and Tacoma, Washington, totaling 127,228 kg (140 US tons).

Each of those 40-foot containers can weigh more than 3,700 kilograms when empty, so there’s far less than 140 tons of actual product arriving in the United States. But even accounting for containers, Valve’s new shipments weigh significantly differently than previous shipments, suggesting they may have new product inside.

For a few years now, each of Valve’s 40-foot containers crossing the ocean has held as many as 42 packages with a total weight of about 14,500 kilograms (32,000 pounds), import records show. This was true until April 18, at which time Ever Sigma deposited a shipment of 14,322 kilograms and 42 packages in Tacoma, Washington, with Valve partner Ingram Micro. Maybe it still had steam pads inside instead of steamers?

But a few days later, the Ever Shine brought a significantly lighter 12,608 kg (27,800 lb) container to Tacoma, again with 42 packages. Import records show that Valve partners have not switched to a lighter type of container; The standard model is still 40 feet long and weighs about 3,700 kg when empty.

Valve has had at least seven such shipments since April 23, with an average weight of 12,600 kg. Subtract the weight of the containers, and you end up with about 53,124 kilograms of product, packaging, pallets and padding needed for the trip, or roughly 50 tons of “game consoles.”

Just remember that 50 tons is actually not a lot! Valve says the Steam Machine weighs 2.6 kg (about 5.73 pounds) per controller, so the recent increase in shipments could add up to fewer than 20,000 Steam Machines, especially if any of them are pre-bundled with a controller or other items that add to the weight of each package. I’m less confident about the Steam Frame, although I’m personally excited about the competition in the gaming headset market.
