Tracking California’s lawsuits against the new Trump administration

In summary

California Democratic leaders have set aside tens of millions of dollars to challenge President Donald Trump’s executive orders and policies.

California v Trump Round 2 is now underway.

President Donald Trump signed a slew of executive orders moments after taking office as president, and many of them could directly affect California.

Those orders include revoking offshore wind licenses that could shut down proposals off the coast of Humboldt County and Morro Bay, more aggressive targeting of undocumented immigrants living across the state, and strong adoption of fossil fuels that could affect of air quality standards, state mandates for electric vehicles and funding for green initiatives.

California officials used the courts to defend themselves during Trump’s first administration by suing the federal government at least 123 times and winning two out of three times. Democratic leaders in the state began preparing for new cases months before Trump took office, writing memos and setting aside tens of millions of dollars for expected legal battles.

Now, as Trump’s second term begins, the state is already filing lawsuits. We are tracking these cases as recorded below.
