Christmas morning.
Was it really Christmas morning?
Oh, figuratively.
I’m Canadian, very naive. Now you know.
Good to know.
It was quite interesting, because I’ve been swimming in the right-wing waters of QAnon and 4chan for a long time. I think when it was new and scary in 2016 and 2015, when you had Pepe the Frog and memes of people being put in gas chambers and things like that, I had never encountered anything like that before. That was like oh my god.
Do you ever worry about your safety?
Oh sure. At the time, there were some incidents where it was like, “Oh, maybe we should get something,” you know? various. I don’t live behind a wall or anything, but you have to take some precautions.
We have reporters covering the waters you swim in. It can be very scary. I looked at the responses to Alex Jones’ post on X about you, and people were all saying, “Fuck you, Alex Jones.”
Well, the funniest thing is I think a lot of his supporters were like, “Alex, that was a comedy show. Like, that’s kind of embarrassing for you.”
It’s very funny for me and for Eric and for our friends, because obviously we were the ones who did it, and we know who we are, and we know where our intentions are.
You look at him now, and you say, “Yes, I think, you know, I can see you’re handling this the wrong way,” but at the time we were making each other laugh, you know? So I’m not here to defend it. It was very funny to see him get angry about these things for sure.
But perhaps it is also interesting to see how its influence has diminished. I was surprised to see that it didn’t generate the kind of response I thought it would.
I wish we had come to this sooner. I mean the whole movement is so broken. He is at war with Trump every day.
There are certain things that he’s kind of close to being right about. He’s on our side now, apparently, in the war in Iran and he thinks that’s a bad idea. So, you know, it changes and changes, maybe for cynical reasons or whatever, trying to control the flow, wherever the culture is going on that side.
He has to sell some supplements.
It’s all about that. I think the crux of it, though, is to feel the non-comedic ideas of retribution, justice, and consequences for your actions. Thoughts I didn’t necessarily expect to be in the middle of.
But after learning more about the families and what they went through and everything, it seemed like a very noble activity to be a part of.
Well, let me get to that then, seriously. How did you get involved in all of this in the first place? Take us back to before you became Creative Director of the new Infowars. How did this become even a glimmer of possibility?
