I also like that the Kindle Scribe pen has a button that switches to highlight mode, which is especially convenient as a reader if you want to easily switch from underlining or taking notes to highlighting a passage. Although the ReMarkable is more precise and has an impressive paper feel, I actually think that either Scribe model feels more comfortable and convenient to use, especially since you don’t need to pay extra for the eraser point. But the slimmer second-generation Scribe is more comfortable to type with, at least for my hand.

If you view these devices more as a reader than a note taker, you’ll want to choose the Kindle Scribe. While you can read books on any ReMarkable device, whether Paper Pure or another model, you must manually download files to the ReMarkable device through the ReMarkable desktop or mobile app. This means that you need to have a PDF or ePUB version of that book or reading material in order to download it.
Kindle devices, on the other hand, are primarily designed for reading. Kindle Scribes work in the same way as a regular Kindle, allowing you to purchase books through the Kindle Store, download library books through the Libby app, download files to the built-in web browser, and also download files manually via a USB cable and software. Like Caliber.
Program Winner: ReMarkable Paper Pure
If you want the most impressive set of programming capabilities (other than readers), ReMarkable is the one to turn to. Although the Paper Pure doesn’t have a front light and fewer accessories, it has the same programming capabilities as ReMarkable’s Pro line. You can edit and annotate a batch of documents, convert notes to written format, connect to services like Google Drive and Microsoft to get your documents, search through all your notes with AI that learns to read your handwriting, and much more. New software features also launched with ReMarkable Paper Pure this year, including calendar-based notes and sharing your documents with non-ReMarkable users. However, you’ll need a Connect subscription ($3 per month) to get the best features of ReMarkable.
