This modular watch strap allows you to hide your Apple Watch under your Rolex

Smartwatches may have made strides in looks, but let’s face it: they still don’t have any of the timeless finesse of a traditional luxury analog watch. If you have both, you’ll be stuck with the favorite game of the day, choosing between brains and beauty. New Smartlit The watch band claims to offer the best of both worlds by allowing you to wear both on the same wrist, simultaneously, with one layered on top of the other.

When the Paris-based startup first announced the Smartlet in 2026 CES in Las VegasIt seemed like an awkward solution to a niche problem. But after seeing it up close in the showroom and spending some hands-on time with it, it seems the concept is less out there than we initially thought. While the setup is still niche and not without flaws, it makes sense for anyone who loves a classic watch but doesn’t want to give up the watch’s health tracking features, notifications, or mobile payment options. The stainless steel strap starts at $400, while the titanium version can go for up to $700. Bands do not include smart watch or mechanical watch.

What you’re really buying is the modular band system, which is compatible with most major smartwatches and fitness trackers, including Apple watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Google Pixel watch, Garmin models, Fitbit Charge Devices and whoop. On the analog side, it supports watches with lug widths from 18 to 24 mm, which includes high-end models from brands like Omega, Tudor, TAG Heuer, and Rolex.

The idea came from founder, David Ohayon, who says he was tired of having to choose between an analog watch and an Apple Watch every morning. The Smartlet, in theory, lets you switch from fitness nerd to polished executive with a flick of the wrist. In practice, at least in early hands-on demos, it was more clever than awkward.

It feels much lighter than expected, despite having two devices on one wrist, said Tara Brown, a social producer for CNET, who tested the band at a CES showroom. Smartlet says it intentionally designed the side of the band to be very light to compensate for the added hardware and that it only adds between 9mm and 12mm of height to the underside of the wrist once a connected device is attached.

However, as someone who is already able to scratch watches without even trying, the idea of strapping a second device to the underside of my wrist, where it regularly comes into contact with desks, armrests, and tablets, seems like a dangerous gamble. However, I’d be more inclined to pair my (nonexistent) Rolex with a screenless tracker to get all the benefits of health tracking without worrying about damaging the watch underneath. For example, the Whoop 5 is integrated directly into the Smartlet’s metal clasp and effectively disappears into the bracelet.

There is also the aesthetic. Smartlet is clearly targeting what it calls the “modern man,” with marketing language that leans heavily into luxury watch culture and phrases like “from the boardroom to the weekend getaway.” Translation: This is a watch for wealthy men who want to show off their investment chops without sacrificing tracking their gains at the gym.

And while it may not be the most practical (or budget-friendly) solution for most people, the Smartlet is one niche product that has us going all out. CES this year.
