A YouTube video Only the back of the device revealed that it is a black smartphone with dual cameras, an LED flash and what appear to be dual shoulder buttons that can be used when holding the phone horizontally. The video and explanatory text did not include any details about the phone’s features, release date, or price, but only a QR code for the company’s Discord server.

A representative for Ayaneo did not immediately respond to a request for further information.

CNET’s review of Ayaneo’s Pocket S Android portable gaming device was positivebut I found that the price, lack of a headphone jack, and fan noise are deal-breakers for a device that starts at $559.

Commentators on YouTube He said some of the features they’d like to see more of on the Ayaneo phone include a 3.5mm headphone jack, an SD card slot, and stereo speakers.

What to expect from the Ayaneo phone

A gaming-focused mobile phone could be a natural progression for a company that has been experimenting with a wide range of form factors — including some full keyboards — for its mobile products.

“Ayaneo’s move from the mobile gaming market to phones could actually make a lot of sense,” said CNET’s Mike Sorrentino, a senior mobile editor. “The company already makes Android gaming consoles, making one of the phones a true phone that could make it a more natural companion.”

To get into the mobile space, Ayaneo will have to do more than just offer games on good hardware, Sorrentino noted.

“A common issue in the current gaming phone market is software support and security, which is especially crucial to keeping your phone safe,” he said. “So I hope the new gaming phone that hits the market will prioritize that and not just its hardware specifications.”
