The LUCI (Long Understanding Contextual Intelligence) project is designed to serve as a reference platform for developers. The goal of Project LUCI is to become the Android of AI wearables, a platform that can be easily scaled and replicated so that companies can make their own devices.

The LUCI project will allow people to remember their past conversations, decisions, and other moments. The companion app will turn past events into searchable memories.

“After seeing the failure of several high-profile AI wearables, we realized that the space still needed a lot of maturity, so we transformed LUCI from a consumer device into a system-level reference design for other smart wearable companies to test, build and trial our Big Visual Memory Prototype, a platform that gives AI the ability to remember like humans,” Sean Chen, co-founder and CEO of Memories.ai, said in an interview with our sister site CNET.

Shen believes that previous wearable AI devices failed to attract interest because they lacked memory and proper contextual understanding. Memories.ai solves this problem with their latest LVMM 2.0 model. The wearable device converts the video capture into encoded frames on the device, which can then be referenced. Shen equated Project LUCI to Google’s Nexus line of phones, which were the first phones for developers and enthusiasts with minimal software flourishes to showcase the Android platform. Memories.AI will work with other AI companies, such as Rokid, Charge, and RayNeo.

As for security, Shin says the team will work with cloud providers on “best practices to ensure enterprise-level data security, encryption, and access control across the entire system.” Memories.ai will also work with chip maker Qualcomm to power the pin and add additional layers of security.

The LUCI project comes on the heels of several failed or lackluster wearable AI devices.
