Seating technology may have reached its peak for those of us who struggle to keep piles of slightly worn clothes off the furniture. the Laundry chair — developed by YouTuber and viral inventor Simone Giertz — is now available for purchase through a Kickstarter campaign, providing a storage solution that still functions as a usable seat when covered with clothes that are too clean to wash, but too dirty to put away.
The $1,100 laundry chair includes a swivel rail that can rotate around the seat on a Lazy Susan ball mount, allowing laundry to be hung above it without covering the armrests or seat cushion. The chair also features a solid wood frame and comes with green cotton upholstery, with a second color option expected in the future. Discounts of up to $200 are available to early backers of the crowdfunding launch, with delivery expected in November 2026.
The project initially began as a prototype designed by Gertz for YouTube video in 2024 Before deciding to put it on the market through its Yetch product brand. “I made the laundry chair because I was tired of staring at my pile of half-dirty clothes.” Gertz said in the press release. “So I decided to make a chair that was actually designed for the job.”
The moving rail serves several purposes. It makes it easier to pile up clothes and then partially hide that messy view behind the back of a single-person chair, but it also allows the semi-worn fabric to breathe better than if it were in a wrinkled pile or stored away, which helps reduce moisture, wrinkles, and odors. Giertz has experimented with other rotating furniture solutions as well, like this one Coffee table Which doubles as an ottoman, and has been released previously Foldable clothes hanger To fit shallow spaces in its online store Yetch.
“No piles. No unusable chairs. Don’t pretend you’ll deal with them later,” says the Kickstarter campaign for the laundry chair. “It’s not really about washing more clothes. Washing clothes after each wear breaks them down faster. Most pieces don’t need a full wash, they just need a little air.”
I think the laundry chair is reasonably priced for a custom piece of furniture, even if the color options are somewhat limited currently. Sure, I could invest in a regular clothes rack to tackle the growing pile of goblin next to my bed for a lot less money, but I’ve yet to find one that doesn’t look unsightly. It’s already normal to throw clothes on a chair, so why bother learning better habits?
