There’s a lot to like about the stylish and affordable Xiaomi 17T Pro

I absolutely adored it Xiaomi and Leica’s Leitzphone –And So many amazing photos I took with her – but at £1,700 (US$2,279) it’s out of reach for those of us who don’t have “CEO” or “oil baron” in our job title. But fortunately, Xiaomi makes a variety of phones at very reasonable prices. Its latest mid-range mobile phone – the 17T Pro – has a lot to offer for its affordable price.

From its metal design and Leica-branded rear camera setup to its solid performance, it has pretty much everything you need from a phone on a daily basis. Better yet, its €899 price tag (about £779 or $1,045 although it won’t officially be sold in the US) means it won’t break the bank either.

I’ve had the phone in my hand for a few hours so I can’t yet make a judgment on whether this phone competes with budget phones like Pixel 10aand phones with similar prices such as iPhone 17Or more expensive models such as Xiaomi 17 Ultra. But I had some early thoughts that I wanted to share. So here we go.

Xiaomi 17T Pro: elegant design in blue

The body of the phone is made of metal and I think it’s nice to hold. It has a sturdiness that makes it feel more premium than you might expect at this price. I love the deep blue too, it looks elegant but also smart. I like technology with a little personality (eg There’s nothing rosy about the 4A Pro Or my talk Red leather Leica Q3 43) So anything beyond the usual black, silver, or white is good for me.

It’s IP68 rated for protection against water or dust, and its 6.83-inch screen is big, bright, and bold enough to do mobile gaming and YouTube videos justice.

Xiaomi 17T Pro: Leica cameras

The phone has the usual trio of rear cameras including a 50MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto camera (offering 5x optical zoom) and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The main camera seems to use a Leica Summilux lens element for sharper images, and I’m looking forward to trying it out. I don’t expect it to compete with the photography prowess of the Leitzphone – this phone has some very advanced photography technology, hence the price – but I do expect it to be able to deliver good-looking shots in most conditions.

It faces a lot of competition though, as even budget-focused phones like the Pixel 10A and Nothing Phone 4A Pro are capable of delivering vibrant, impactful images at affordable prices, so I’m keen to see how the 17T Pro fares against the competition.

Xiaomi 17T Pro: processor and battery

The phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor, which achieved strong scores in our benchmark test. He was in line with last year’s elite as Galaxy S25 Ultra And the iPhone 17, but it doesn’t pose a major challenge to today’s flagship phones like the S26 Ultra or Honor Magic 8 Pro. However, for the price, it’s an excellent effort and I found it more than capable of playing games like PUBG at maximum settings while still providing smooth gameplay.

It’s powered by a 7,000mAh carbon silicon battery, which I expect will provide all-day use. And if you start running low in the evening, it supports 100W wired charging to get the juice back in no time at all – as long as you have a compatible charger.

Xiaomi 17T Pro: should you buy it?

Although it’s too early to make a final judgment on the 17T Pro, it represents a lot of the elements I’d look for in a phone at this price. The camera specs are solid, the battery size feels quite large and I was really impressed with the processor performance. The smart blue color is the cherry on top.

Although it won’t challenge Leitzphone for the 2026 photography crown, its overall specs make it look like a solid everyday option for those of you who aren’t keen on spending every penny in your bank account on a new phone. Stay tuned for more when I see what this phone can do.
