Therabody, the manufacturer behind some of the Top massage guns And beauty and recovery tools, announced on Saturday its latest devices: Cryo Therm Balm. It’s a portable, dumbbell-like three-in-one recovery tool that offers dual-sided heating and cooling and a stopwatch for timed sessions.
According to the Therabody website, the CryoTherm Palm device uses scientifically calibrated thermal cooling technology that makes the device cold or hot within seconds. The company wanted a device with similar functionality to hot and cold wearables Heat recovery cubebut more compact.
Therabody chose palm cooling because the palms and feet contain bare skin (smooth skin without hair follicles) with blood vessels, called arteriovenous anastomoses, that are known to exchange heat quickly. Athletes were asked to complete four sets of overhead presses at 85% of their repetition maximum (the heaviest weight they could lift). Next, the researchers had them test the CryoTherm Palm between sets and found that it helped them increase their total work volume by 28% and produce 58% more repetitions, with the greatest progress being made in the final set.
The cooling function has three levels and is designed to lower your core body temperature between high-intensity exercises and reduce swelling and other soreness. The heating side has three options and aims to promote blood circulation and reduce muscle pain. You can also customize contrast therapy and apply heat and cold simultaneously.
Therabody designed this product with athletes and everyday fitness enthusiasts in mind, so the CryoTherm Palm is compact and fits easily into your gym bag. It also turns off on its own after 30 minutes and has a travel lock to prevent it from turning on when not in use. Although shaped like a dumbbell with rounded tips, the CryoTherm Palm is designed to be an anti-roll device.
