Viewers tuning into Saturday’s Major League Soccer match between LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC on Apple TV may not see the biggest tech news behind their screens – the live event will be filmed entirely on an iPhone 17 Pro, with cameras positioned all around the venue.
apple It announced Thursday that the game at 7:30pm PT on the streaming platform, formerly known as Apple TV Plus, will feature live iPhone footage with cameras positioned around Dignity Health Sports Park in California. The footage will include “the team’s warm-up on the field, the players’ introduction, the goal angles inside the net, and the atmosphere inside the field.”
This will be the first time iPhones have been used to capture live broadcasts of major professional sporting events. Apple TV Previously used iPhone 17 Pro of a live broadcast last September of a Friday night baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers, but the phone only captured “select moments from the game and cinematic footage from the field.”
After that first foray, Apple said it began using iPhones across more sports broadcasts and integrated the technology into the regular production cycle of Friday Night Baseball and MLS broadcasts through the 2026 season.
MLS regular season will Pause from May 25 to July 16 For the 2026 World Cup next June. Apple TV costs $13 per month and lets fans watch the entire 2026 MLS season live at no cost Additional MLS Season Pass required.
