The new trailer for the Harry Potter TV series brings back Hogwarts Magic for HBO

Go ahead and prepare for the inevitable comparisons: The new trailer for HBO’s Harry Potter series was released on Wednesday, giving audiences a first look at the heists, the magical students of Hogwarts, and the Boy Who Lived. Due for release on HBO and HBO Max on Christmas 2026, the TV show will be a direct adaptation of the wizarding books, starting with the Philosopher’s Stone.

For fans familiar with the film franchise, this may seem like a rediscovery – or reintroduction – of the live-action version of the Harry Potter universe. The trailer shows young Harry and his distinctive scar, his aunt’s tyrant, and the moment he receives his invitation from Hogwarts. Take a look at the first meeting with Hagrid, tender moments with Ron and Hermione, and a look at Lucius Malfoy and Snape.

The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alistair Stout.
Like Ron Weasley, the cast also includes Nick Frost as Hagrid, John Lithgow as Hogwarts Headmaster Dumbledore, and Papa Essidu as Professor Snape.
