Sharing is a big deal in the world Social media. Wednesday, Meta announced direct talkswhich is a new feature of the social media app powered by Instagram Topics. It adds an element to real-time conversation, allowing people to connect during cultural events of high interest, such as the playoffs or championship games, or even the release of a long-awaited album.
A Meta spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Live Chat, Threads’ new public chat feature, is launching just in time for the NBA playoffs.
Live chats won’t be limited to sports, but the feature will launch during the NBA Playoffs within the NBAThreads community, and a variety of personalities – Malika Andrews, Rachel Nichols, Trieste Creek, David Rushing and Lexi Mickens -You will host live chats while games unfold.
The group chat experience includes countdowns, polls, live scores, and other real-time options designed to keep the conversation active.
How to find live chats on topics
Live chats about the games will appear at the top of the NBAThreads community, and can also appear in your main Threads feed if you follow a character who posted the link. A red circle will appear on the live chat host’s profile photo when they are live. More community feeds will have a live chat feature in the coming months.
Once you’re in the chat, you’ll be able to send and receive messages, attach photos, videos, and links, and send emojis for interaction. Anyone can join the chat, but they can reach capacity and stop accepting new users. If this happens, you will still be able to view the conversation as it happens, respond to messages as they appear, and interact with polls that may be posted. Once the live chat ends, it will remain viewable on the platform.
How to start live chat on topics
Live chats are open and public, but Meta only allows a select number of creators and personalities to host them on Threads. This includes Community Champions, which are active and influential users within the Threads community who stay engaged with others and keep conversations alive.
To schedule a live chat, an eligible host will click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select “Schedule a live chat.” You can give the chat a name, set a time frame for it to be live and then invite other Threads users to join or post the link in your feed and Instagram Story to spread the word.
A greater live chat experience is coming
Once the Meta improves this feature, more live chat features will be rolling out in the near future, including shared hosting, play-by-play commentary content, lock screen widgets, and a sharing option that will allow you to quote chat messages directly in your thread feed.
