The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door electric coupe can accelerate from 0 to 60 in two seconds


The era of Mercedes’ high-performance electric cars has arrived. The German automaker has finally unveiled its new super sedan, the AMG GT 4-door Coupe, with technology borrowed from the automaker’s XX concept that made history last year by He covered 24,901 miles in less than 8 days on the Nardò Ring in southern Italy.

With the production model, Mercedes has rethought its approach to engines and batteries in hopes of delivering a high-performance car that can even compete with some supercars. The new AMG GT uses three axial flow engines developed by Mercedes subsidiary Yasadelivering up to 1,153 horsepower and 1,475 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes claims to be the first to use these types of engines, which thanks to their slim disc shape weigh only a fraction of a traditional radial engine while still delivering massive horsepower.

Meanwhile, the high-performance battery uses long, ultra-thin cylindrical cells just one inch in diameter, allowing heat to escape from the core to the outer surface almost instantly. In addition, Mercedes has developed a special high-tech, non-conductive oil so as not to cause electrical shorts. Oil flows directly around each individual cell for direct cooling. Inspired by Formula 1, this system provides 20 kW of cooling power, or about four times the cooling capacity of Standard EQS battery. You can drag it out racing over and over again, and in theory it won’t overheat.

The AMG GT 4-door Coupé is designed with an 800V architecture capable of handling ultra-fast charging of up to 600 kilowatts. Mercedes says this is in addition to the innovative cooling system that allows for 10-80 percent charging in just 11 minutes. A nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminium cathode, combined with a silicon-containing anode, can achieve an energy density of more than 298 watt-hours per kilogram. The EV can also switch from 800V to 400V when needed, and supports five global DC charging standards (including NACS and CCS2).

Naturally, all of this translates into an absolutely diabolical level track car. But of course, like most automakers, Mercedes is concerned about how racing fans will handle a completely silent electric motor. That’s why the AMG GT 4-door Coupé will also feature more than 1,600 audio files derived from the AMG GT R to simulate engine notes, exhaust notes and traction interruptions during virtual gear changes. It also contains distinctive sounds for opening, entering and charging the car.

But it’s not just a fast car that makes fake noises. The AMG GT 4-door Coupé also has a lot of computing power. Mercedes has centralized the car’s brain in the AMG Race Engineer Core, which runs on the automaker’s new MB.OS operating system. Instead of a dozen tiny chips arguing with each other, there’s one highly advanced master chip in the middle of the car that simultaneously controls everything from steering, charging, suspension and battery cooling.

Inside you’ll find not one, not two, but three screens, all housed under one continuous glass surface. This includes a 10.2-inch driver display, a 14-inch angled multimedia display, and a 14-inch passenger display running MB.OS. Owners can track all their metrics, including air, heat and energy usage in real time.

Mercedes has not announced official prices yet, but it said that the GT 55 version will be available in late 2026, followed by the GT 63 in early 2027.
