Few fans link Formula 1 race With sustainability, but perhaps inconsistently for the glorified combustion sport, the league has a goal to reach net carbon emissions by 2030.
For the F1 teams, it is not simple as sustainable fuel burning in their racing cars engines. In fact, cars are responsible for less than 1 % of the carbon fingerprint for the team. The vast majority come from everything else, including logistical services directed to sweat, commercial travel, office spaces, computers, etc.
To compensate for some of the most challenging sources, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team purchases 5500 tons of carbon carbon credits, which cultivates forests in the deteriorating agricultural lands in the southeast of the United States
The credits are scheduled to be delivered in 2027 until 2030. In total, about 10 % of the team’s emissions in 2023. Mercedes-AMG Petronas aims to reduce emissions by 75 % by 2030 and hit net carbon emissions in 2040.
Although the purchase of the new carbon credit for Mercedes-Aamg Petronas is small, the team has signed a deal with Frontier, and the advanced market commitment from Stripe, Google, Meta, Shopify and others.
Carbon chestnut recently I closed a deal With Microsoft for 7 million metric tons of carbon balances, and raised 160 million dollars in the series B A tour to expand its operations. The startup aims to provide 100 million credit hours by 2030.
