Code in the iOS 27 beta will allow Apple to put a financed iPhone into “restricted mode” if it detects any missing payments. 9to5Mac reports. The discovery follows the story of Bloomberg Earlier this week it was claimed that Apple is preparing to launch a new phone “Apple upgrade” New equipment rental financing program.
iPhones in Restricted Mode will reportedly lose access to almost all apps, except the essentials like the Phone app, Settings, and the App Store. It uses a new App Managed Features system that allows funding or partner apps to constantly check if a funded device is in good standing.
according to 9to5Macthe code also includes a new “Partner Funding Lock” that aims to prevent users from “wiping, reselling, or stripping a restricted device for parts.” Although the feature is part of Find My, it does not give financing partners access to the phone’s location.
This is from the iOS 27 beta, so it’s possible that this icon and the new “Restricted Mode” will be changed or removed before Apple officially launches iOS 27. The “Apple Upgrade” program has not been officially announced yet. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
