The Insta360 Luna Ultra 8K stabilized camera is now available in the US

So far, I don’t think I prefer the Luna Ultra over the Osmo Pocket 3! It’s so nice to have the second lens with 6x lossless zoom and the detachable wireless touchscreen, allowing me to capture my daughter’s ballet recital and my father’s wedding without leaving my seat. I can read the notes in my child’s piano lesson from across the room with 12x zoom unlike the DJI.

But Luna is not easy to use. It’s not compact and easy to hold, it’s extremely annoying to have to un-navigate the menu after changing each setting (you can’t just press the record button to return to recording mode), and most importantly, it’s harder to tell if things are in focus on the Luna than on my DJI. I’d prefer a sharper screen rather than a detachable one, especially since the Luna isn’t quite as good at automatically choosing the right focus to start with. I can generally have confidence in the Pocket 3, but the Luna needs more work.

I find the Luna a little better at tracking people automatically, and the 47GB of built-in storage means there’s no swearing when I leave the SD card in my computer. It’s smart that the extended handles include foldable mini-tripods as well, and I’m looking forward to trying out other useful accessories like a neck mount and an earpiece that rotates the camera to match your true head viewpoint.
