Kay Wright is the co-host of United States with Kay and Carter In The Guardian. But Wright has been bringing his unique ideas to listeners for years. He was also hosted Notes from America, United States concernand Indivisible. He is a Peabody Award-winning journalist who has profiled powerful men, explored what it means to be an American, and chronicled the AIDS epidemic.
When he’s not delving into sex, race, and politics, he’s gardening, listening to John Coltrane, and adamantly refusing to buy a new phone. Wright was kind enough to give us a glimpse into his daily routine, how he relaxes, and offer some simple but powerful advice.

What is the one thing you wish you could change about your phone?
I wish I could buy one smartphone and never have to buy another one again, forever. Why does it have to constantly become outdated? (Of course, I haven’t actually bought a new phone in a few years. I’m just accepting what my partner does. So I’m complaining on a whimsical principle.)
How many tabs do you have open now?

I wish I had thought of Memory Palace – which to me still represents podcasting at its best. A short, sweet and profound human history of our world. One person, telling you a well-written story.
What creation are you most proud of?
Can I say my entire garden? It’s an exercise in constant learning, applying knowledge and trying again, and I hear from seasoned gardeners that you never figure it out. excellent.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Live an honest life. I mean, do your best to say yourself The truth, and make choices accordingly.
What do you do when you feel stuck?
Listen to John Coltrane recordings.
What’s the last piece of physical media you purchased?
What will your resume slogan be?
