The new MacBook sits below the MacBook Air as an entry-level device, and is the most affordable laptop the company has ever made, with a starting price of $599. Although it was possible to buy a new MacBook Air at lower prices, e.g 2020 M1 MacBook Air Apple was sold for several years $699 exclusively through Walmart-This is officially the cheapest MacBook out of the gate.
Aside from the price, its color approach also makes it unique among other MacBooks in Apple’s lineup. You have many bold color options, including silver, indigo, blush, and citrus. Colors return to iBook G3 From yesterday and it is closer to Current iMac design. Although there are many color options for the MacBook Air, they are more subtle.
Despite its price, Apple doesn’t seem to be cutting corners on the screen. With a 2408 x 1506 resolution and up to 500 nits of brightness, Apple boasts that it’s “brighter and higher resolution than most laptops in this price range.” There’s a 1080p camera, two USB-C ports, a Touch ID sensor, side speakers with Dolby Atmos, and a headphone jack.
The MacBook Neo makes some compromises to achieve its solid price. It’s powered by the A18 Pro chipset, which is the same processor that’s inside it iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Yes – you read that correctly. iPads have used Mac chips for years, but now the MacBook uses the iPhone chip. However, this processor should provide more power than the original M1 chip in the processor MacBook Air. Apple claims the chip gives the MacBook Neo up to 16 hours of battery life. That’s less than a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.
Using an iPhone chip means this MacBook also means it only supports one external display. Although Apple didn’t include it in the main body of its press release, it’s noted in the notes below that the testing was conducted on a configuration that has a unified 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage.
