Where are you going to use it? Is portability the most important aspect? As in, want something smaller than your phone?
Bluetooth or wired? Are you only connecting Bluetooth headphones/earbuds, or are you connecting wired headphones. If the latter, do your headphones need a lot of power (usually larger, higher quality headphones).
Want to stream music too? Smaller, less expensive MP3 players typically do not have streaming capabilities. Find something that runs on Android. This will allow you to install most apps like Spotify, Qobuz, Tidal, etc.
How much do you want to spend? There are plenty of great options under $100, and you can spend upwards of $1,000 on high-end audiophile models. Some of our favorite models are under $250.
