Texas sues Netflix over ‘bait-and-switch’ advertising and spying


Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton File a lawsuit against Netflixaccusing the company of “spying on Texas residents, including children, and collecting user data without their knowledge or consent.” The lawsuit, filed Monday, also alleges that Netflix designed its platform to be addictive, with features to “manipulate” users.

“Netflix has created a surveillance program designed to illegally collect and profit from Texas residents’ personal data without their consent, and my office will do everything we can to stop it,” Paxton said in the press release. “Netflix is ​​not the ad-free, kid-friendly platform it claims. Instead, it misled consumers while exploiting their private data to make billions.”

Paxton accuses Netflix of violating the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and asks the court to prevent the “unlawful collection and disclosure” of user data, as well as disabling autoplay by default on children’s profiles.
