Convicted Frank founder Charlie Javis is reportedly seeking a presidential pardon, as her camp quietly courtes people close to the Trump administration. According to the Wall Street Journal. She adds that her name has not yet appeared on the list of official clemency requests at the Ministry of Justice.
That list is growing quickly. As the administration considers distributing nearly 250 pardons this summer on America’s 250th birthday, a wave of clemency requests is pouring in from white-collar defendants – Including Sam Bankman Fried.
JPMorgan cannot be happy with any of this. Last September, Javis was convicted of fabricating millions of customer accounts to inflate the value of her startup before selling it to the bank for $175 million. She is now serving more than seven years in prison and is appealing the ruling, arguing that the case against her was unfair.
The bank may have additional reason to be concerned given its relationship with President Trump. In early 2021, accounts linked to Trump and his companies were closed shortly after the January 6 Capitol riot, a move Trump has since called a political “bank dump,” as he sued JPMorgan and CEO Jamie Dimon for corruption. 5 billion dollars. (JPMorgan denies any political motives.)
Javis has powerful friends, too, including Mark Rowan of Apollo, an early Frank investor who testified on her behalf at trial. Rowan has donated to Trump’s campaigns, and since his reelection, has given millions more to Republican groups in Congress.
