Spotify Premium users in New Zealand will be the first to experience the service’s latest personalization features. The company allows users to view and make changes to their files Taste profile directly. If your algorithm is serving up too many peppers, you can politely ask the algorithm to slow down. Beta testers will be able to access the feature by clicking on their profile icon and then selecting Taste Profile from the sidebar menu.
Not only does the Taste Profile tell you which artists you listen to frequently, it also identifies trends in your listening habits. In a small demo clip, Spotify shows an example of a taste profile that includes the following line: “I also started exploring alternative rock in the ’90s.”
At the bottom of the screen is a box labeled “Tell us more,” where you can tell Spotify what you want more or less of, including podcasts. Here you can say things like “I’d like to listen to more hip-hop” or “I’m training for a marathon and want more high-energy tracks,” and Spotify will adjust its recommendations. It is similar to the company’s chatbot system Required playlists.
Spotify is improving things on the non-algorithmic front as well by adding Filters On to the next recap of the podcast. Now you can watch only unplayed episodes, in-progress, or even audio-only videos.
