SpaceXAI has released its latest model, the Grok 4.5, its first since the company went public several weeks ago.
in Blog post Published on Wednesday, SpaceXAI described its new version as a workhorse that can handle all the typical tasks the AI industry has sought to automate: programming and building applications, office and clerical work, research, writing, and other forms of routine cognitive work.
Grok will presumably do all of this at a lower cost, too, with SpaceXAI saying its model has “2 times greater token efficiency” than other leading models. If applied to real-world use cases, this efficiency would be a huge advantage for SpaceXAI, since the cost of tokens has been a growing concern for AI consumers.
The company released benchmark metrics on Wednesday that seemed to show the Grok’s competitiveness with other top models from SpaceXAI’s competitors, though it falls just short of best in class:

“Based on strong positive feedback from customers in our pilot beta program, @SpaceXAI will make Grok 4.5 publicly available tomorrow. It’s an Opus-class model, but faster, more token efficient, and less expensive,” Musk wrote in a post on X.
Musk later added: “Our internal assessment is that the Grok 4.5 is roughly comparable to the Opus 4.7, but much faster. It’s the combination of greater power and speed and lower cost that makes it competitive.”
SpaceXAI says its new model costs $2 per million input codes and $6 per million output codes. This is very competitive, if your puppy’s abilities match SpaceXAI’s letter.
opus 4.7, In comparison, it costs $5 per million input codes, and $25 per million output codes. OpenAI It has tiered costs For different model versions: Sol, the most expensive, costs $5 for input codes and $30 for outputs, while Luna, the least expensive, costs $1 for inputs and $6 for outputs.
It’s a big week for AI model releases. OpenAI is Planning for release GPT 5.6, the latest and most powerful model, was released on Thursday. The Trump administration had previously imposed restrictions on the launch of this model, due to concerns about its security implications. OpenAI He called it “Her most powerful model yet.”
