Sony has updated its wearable air conditioner so it’s cooler and better at hugging your neck

Sony announced a new version of Wearable personal air conditioner The company was first unveiled in 2019 ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The latest version is an upgrade to Last year’s Pro modelAnd while the new Reon Pocket Pro Plus isn’t a complete hardware overhaul, it does come with performance upgrades and design updates that make it easy to wear discreetly under many types of shirts. It launches in Europe and other markets today for €229/£199, or around $270. As with all previous releases, Sony has not mentioned plans to bring it stateside.

Instead of just blowing you with air like Dyson HushJet Mini Coolthe Reon Pocket Pro Plus works more like a Cooling pad accessory for Shark’s ChillPill. Using a pair of advanced flexible arms that wrap around your neck to keep it securely in place on your upper back, the device relies on a cooling metal plate that presses against your skin. Compared to last year’s model, the panel’s surface temperature has been reduced by an additional 2 degrees Celsius, and it works in conjunction with an “advanced cooling algorithm” that Sony claims delivers a 20 percent improvement in cooling performance.

Other upgrades include a new Reon Pocket Pro Plus exhaust vent design, allowing you to extend its length and adjust its angle to ensure warm air is expelled away from your body, even while wearing a high-collared shirt. The Pro Plus also works in conjunction with the new Reon Pocket Tag 2 sensor which is now 18 percent smaller and has a new design that allows it to be hung from a belt or carabiner away from your body for more accurate temperature and humidity measurements.
