Your calendars are the default page that Calendar 2 shows you, but that’s not all this device can do. There are several tabs you can click on: Lists, Tasks, Rewards, Meals, Recipes, Photos, then Sleep and Settings. Besides Sleep and Settings, which link to different settings on your device, these pages will require some work to become truly useful. Some of these features are also blocked by a paywall. You will need to Subscribe to the additional planwhich costs $79 per year or $8 per month, for access to rewards, meals, and the AI tool within the Skylight app, Sidekick.

It’s easy to start by using meals casually to plan your meals for the week, but if you have a collection of homemade recipes you love, you can manually add them to your recipes tab. Why bother adding a full recipe? Because then, when you add that recipe to your meal list for the week, Skylight will ask you if it should also add the ingredients to your grocery list in the Lists tab. I didn’t like that every time I added one of my recipes manually, it asked me if I wanted to add the ingredients to my shopping list, but it’s a reasonable flow of action and could be more useful if I switched to Skylight being my only grocery shopping list.
I really like the visual aspect of both my family calendar and the meals page. I quickly typed out “Giant Meatball” for one of our dinners to represent the Costco dinner in our fridge and was able to customize it for Friday’s dinner. You can either add items to your meal plan on Calendar 2 itself or in the Skylight app, which provides access to all the same pages you see on the device. Calendar 2 doesn’t seem to save any takeaways I write down; I’ll have to save it in recipes to use constantly or mark it as a recurring meal on a specific day. I also like that if there’s an event on my husband’s calendar and mine, Skylight will only show it on the screen once and put both colors on our calendars to indicate it’s a joint event.
The Tasks page also works well if you want a to-do list for each family member, but even for tasks I set a specific time for, I didn’t see any alerts on the device or my phone. Once I opened the to-do page, I noticed that I was two days behind on “bring form to dentist appointment,” but I think it would be easy to ignore these pages. It is something you should build as a habit and should not be relied upon for a time-bound task you want to complete. Meanwhile, rewards are tied to tasks, letting you decide how many stars you need to earn by completing tasks to earn a reward that you’ll set for yourself or other members of your household, such as your children.

My biggest complaint with Skylight is the paywall. Requires its own orthotics Plus plan ($79 per month or $8 per year) To use all the features, including the photo screensaver, which I think is a huge bonus of the device. While Skylight is not mine Favorite digital photo frameNot only does the 15-inch frame have the ideal orientation for viewing images, having a screen saver option turns the device into a great multi-use display that the whole family can enjoy.
