Whether you’re looking for buddy comedies, 19th century adventures, or the return of familiar comfort shows, Netflix He gets it. This July, the platform will give fans a lot to dive into.
Millie Bobby Brown returns this month for the third time as Enola Holmes, the younger sister of Detective Sherlock Holmes, but this time she’s a little older: she’s getting married. There are also plenty of new comedies on the docket for this month, including a new sports series, The Hawk, starring Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon, and the new film 72 Hours directed by Kevin Hart, about a middle-aged man who accidentally ends up at a weekend bachelor party with a group of much younger men.
July also marks the release of the Little House on the Prairie reboot, a new season of Ransom Canyon, and we’ll be dropping some can’t-miss honorable mentions. You can watch the Oscar-winning Hamnet on the platform and the fourth season of the hit AMC series Dark Winds.
Here’s a look at 10 new titles arriving on Netflix that will keep us all entertained this July.
July 1
Millie Bobby Brown returns for her third outing as Enola Holmes, the younger sister of Detective Sherlock Holmes, in Enola Holmes 3. Henry Cavill returns as Sherlock, and this time, he has been kidnapped, and it is up to Enola to find her missing brother somewhere in Malta. Further complicating matters is the fact that all of this is happening while she is about to walk down the aisle and marry Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge). The new film arrives on Netflix on July 1.
July 2
Comedian Michelle Buteau is one of the funniest women working in Hollywood, and her series Survival of the Thick is returning to Netflix for another season. The show, which revolves around a New York City-based fashion designer named Mavis (Buteau) who is organizing her career and romantic life, returns July 2 for its final season. This season, new faces in the cast include Wanda Sykes, DL Hughley, Ashley Graham, Ronnie Cheng, and Wyatt Cenac., Jenna Lyons and Ice T.
Human Vapor, a new collaboration between Korea and Japan, is a reimagining of the haunting 1960 film The Human Vapor, about a man who turns into a gaseous vapor and begins a life of crime while pursued by a relentless detective. The new series consists of eight episodes, all of which will be released on July 2. If you’re a fan of Korean hits like Train to Busan, Revelations, or Hellbound, this is the show for you. It was written by Yoon Sang Ho who directed these.
July 5
Sparks of Tomorrow is a new Japanese anime series set in an alternate version of Kyoto in the early 1900s, where the constant use of steam power has left the city in a smoky, smoky haze. Amidst the crowding, a boy and a girl team up to bring their city into the age of electricity. The new series is based on Hiro Yuki’s novel, 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku, and will arrive on Netflix on July 5.
July 9
Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald, Alice Halsey and Skywalker Hughes play the Ingalls family in Netflix’s new interpretation of Little House on the Prairie, the story of one family’s life in the 19th century American West. For some of us who grew up on the original series in the 1970s and 1980s, a reboot is an exciting development. The series will premiere on July 9, and has already been renewed for a second season before its premiere (fans of the original, just heads up, the new series) will Features Nellie Oleson, the original Mean Girl, but she will not appear until Season 2).
July 14
Netflix has no shortage of sports docuseries that delve into the lives of sports stars. Quarterback is one such show that follows a group of NFL signal callers on and off the field. This season, we’ll get a peek into the worlds of Jayden Daniels, Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward, and Joe Flacco. The new season of Quarterback arrives on July 14.
July 16
Two of the most beloved stars of the 1990s and 2000s on Saturday Night Live, Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon, are teaming up for a new sports comedy, The Hawk. In the show, Ferrell plays Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a professional golfer who becomes the face of a new league that competes directly with the PGA Tour. (This isn’t a show secretly funded by LIV Golf, is it? No, it’s not. At least not that we know of!) Shannon plays The Hawk’s ex-wife. The series also stars Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Chris Parnell and Luke Wilson.
July 17
One of the most delightful shows in recent years was Netflix’s original teen romance series Heartstopper, and the show has now been made into a movie. Heartstopper Forever is a series finale, adapting the sixth and final volume of the Heartstopper graphic novel by Alice Oseman into a feature film. The film reunites Kate Connor and Joe Luke as Nick and Charlie as they and their friends prepare for college and what that means for their relationships.
July 23
Set in a small Texas town, the first season of Ransom Canyon follows old friends Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly) and Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel), who have just discovered their romantic feelings for each other. The second season, which opens July 23, begins with Quinn, who has just spent the last six months in New York playing piano with an orchestra, returning to her hometown and to Staten, which she has been pining for. Cast members Lizzie Greene and Garrett Waring return this season, and new faces such as Patricia Clarkson, Steve Howey and Ben Robson join the cast.
July 24
72 Hours is a new comedy starring an all-star cast, including Kevin Hart, Marcelo Hernandez, Teyana Taylor, Mason Gooding and Cam Patterson. In the film, Hart plays a man who is accidentally added to a group chat and invited to spend a weekend in Miami with a group of twenty-somethings. The film is directed by Tim Story, who also directed Ride Along, Barbershop, Fantastic Four, and Shaft.
