Schlage’s UWB-enabled smart lock will be launched this month

It’s been more than a year since Schlage announced its first ultra-wideband (UWB)-enabled smart lock, but it’s almost now available for purchase. Starting June 29, the Schlage Sense Pro lock will be available for $399 in the US, allowing customers to unlock their doors simply by approaching them using a supported device, rather than using keys or biometric scans.

the Sense Pro was announced for the first time at CES 2025. It uses Schlage’s Converge technology for UWB, which requires the Home key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch to calculate your speed, trajectory, and movement to open the door when you arrive. The Sense Pro is the first Schlage lock to support Matter over Thread, allowing it to pair with the Thread-enabled Apple Home Hub (including select Apple TV 4K and HomePod models) for consistent, low-latency performance.

It is also compatible with access — Smart lock standard that supports UWB hands-free unlocking and NFC tap-to-unlock. Schlage says the Sense Pro is expected to support Aliro digital keys in Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet “later this year,” which will also allow UWB-enabled Google and Samsung devices to use hands-free unlocking, or tap to unlock via NFC.

The Sense Pro has built-in Wi-Fi and can be managed remotely through either the Schlage Home app or the Apple Home app. It offers up to six months of battery life “with standard use,” according to Schlage, and features a built-in USB-C port that provides temporary power if the lock stops working when its batteries run dry. Users can track the device’s power using the low battery indicator on the Sense Pro touchscreen.

The only other lock that currently supports hands-free opening is the Aliro UWB Read U400which launched at $270 earlier this year. When my colleague Jane Sense Pro tested In January 2025, it said it automatically unlocked upon approach despite all the radio frequency interference on the CES show floor. Now, after a long wait, we can finally see if the quick, hands-free unlocking experience holds up in real homes.
