Samsung features Dua Lipa on the cover of its TV. She is now suing for $15 million

Pop star Dua Lipa has sued Samsung for displaying her image on the packaging of its TVs without her permission.

Presented by the Grammy Award-winning British singer complaint The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on Friday asked for “not less than $15 million” in damages.

“Ms. Lipa brings this action against Samsung for copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and infringement of her right of publicity in order to obtain compensation for the massive, ongoing, and unauthorized commercial exploitation of her valuable image and likeness by Samsung on cardboard TV boxes,” the lawsuit said.

“Samsung cannot comment on pending litigation,” a company spokesperson told CNET.

The lawsuit asserts that Lipa is the sole copyright owner of the photo, which shows her backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024. The photo outlines her past business partnerships with companies like Porsche and Apple. This is reportedly evidence of the value of its image to major companies.

The company goes on to say that Samsung exploited Lipa’s “highly valued and carefully curated brand identity to sell the TVs,” and shows a number of social media posts from fans claiming they would buy the TV simply because the box contained a photo of the singer.

It was these posts that first brought her image on the boxes to Lipa’s attention in June 2025. The lawsuit says she immediately issued a cease-and-desist order to Samsung, but the company continued to ignore her requests. Additionally, the suit claims that Lipa’s “highly selective” approach to entering into business partnerships meant she “developed a distinct brand.” Therefore, she says, she would not associate herself with “infringing products.” Burns.

Samsung is no stranger to working with celebrities, including… Sidney Sweeney and BTSas brand ambassadors, and The TVs regularly feature as among our favorites. Meanwhile, Lipa was never on Samsung’s books – and it now seems unlikely they will work together in the future.
