Pokemon heroesa competitive pocket monster fighting spin-off game that was announced during a conference Pokemon Day 2025 live streamwill be released on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 On April 8th.

Champions is completely free to play, but will launch alongside an optional paid starter pack. This pack includes additional in-game Pokémon storage, a special Battle Song, and additional in-game currency for recruiting Pokémon for battle.

The latest Pokemon game unifies professional-level play into a single battle format, which will be used for Pokemon World Championship 2026 In August. Although the full range of battle mechanics from previous games such as Z-Moves and Terrastallization were not showcased in any of the promotional materials, Mega Pokemon will be available in Pokemon Champions once the game is released.

We’ve known for a while that Pokemon champions will use it to a great extent Pokemon Home For team building. Pokemon Home is a subscription service that stores Pokemon in the cloud and lets them Transfer in and out Many games, including Pokemon Go, Pokemon Sword and Shield, Pokemon scarlet and purple and Pokemon Legends: ZA.

What we didn’t know was how players who didn’t have a Pokemon Home subscription would build their teams – and honestly, it looks like it’s kind of a mess. Free play will be limited to unlocking one new Pokémon per day from a random pool of available Pocket Monsters.

These Pokemon can be used for a week before they disappear from the player’s account. It will take six days to build a full team, and by the time the player does, almost all of the first team member will have been replaced. What a hassle.

On the upside, scoring victories over online rivals will reward players with a currency that allows them to unlock multiple Pokémon in a single day – and even keep them permanently. Hopefully this currency will be plentiful enough that Pokemon Home doesn’t seem like a requirement to participate in competitive Pokemon battling in the future.

The Trainer uses Victory Points to teach Dragonite new moves and change the distribution of its stats in Pokemon Champions.

The same currency used to permanently recruit Pokémon is what players need to change move sets and change base stat distributions. This will almost certainly become a manageable pain in the neck.

One of the most exciting parts of the imminent release of Pokemon Champions is seeing how the new Pokemon Legends: ZA Mega Evolutions take on classic turn-based Pokemon combat. Legends: ZA launched with a real-time battle system that pared down the complex parts of Pokémon combat in order to create more fluid battles. When Mega Pokemon come to Pokemon Champions, they’ll be getting new abilities that can completely change your high-level gameplay.

A Another blog post The Pokemon Company has teased some of these abilities, showing how Mega Meganium and Mega Feraligatr now have access to more powerful Grass and Dragon-type moves, but there are… Many Mega Pokemon Which could potentially gain meta abilities when Pokemon Champions releases in April.

A mobile version of Pokemon Champions with cross-platform combat is scheduled for release in late 2026, but no official release dates for iOS or Android have been announced yet.
