PlayStation is getting back to what it does best

PlayStation used its latest State of Play presentation to explain where its focus is. After a series of costly stumbles on the live service, the company is returning to focusing on premium, narrative-driven, single-player games. This statement was made clear by how the hour-long show began and ended.

The demo began with an extended look at the gameplay from Marvel wolverinethe new superhero title from Insomniac Games. Over the course of seven minutes of gory action, Logan hacks and slashes his way through a group of villains while trying to rescue some captured mutants, briefly teaming up with Jean Gray to get some help in taking them down. Insomniac is known for its excellent single-player adventures, e.g Ratchet and Clank And the last Spider-Man Games, and Wolverine It looks set to continue the tradition when it launches in September.

The show ended with a big reveal: God of War Luffythe next mainline, single player entry in God of war Series from Santa Monica studio. Luffy It stars Faye, Kratos’ wife, and based on the extensive 23-minute trailer shown during the screening, it appears to have all the hallmarks of the last film. God of war Games: Exciting combat, a magical world to explore, and charming, chatty companions. In this case, it’s a gelatinous cube with Jack Quaid’s voice and sentient tapes connected to Faye’s sword.

In reality Playing Those games are A more expensive proposition than ever. But in stepping back from live service games, Sony has a more obvious path to convincing people to do just that: creating memorable, expansive single-player games that you can’t play anywhere else.
