Oracle and Microsoft are reportedly in talks to take over Tiktok


Oracle and a group of investors that includes Microsoft are in talks to take over Tiktok’s global operations, Reports NPR. The deal, which the White House is negotiating, will see it maintain a minority stake in Tiktok while “the app’s algorithm, data collection, and software updates will be overseen by Oracle.”

The Oracle server network already provides the bulk of Tiktok’s backbone, and under the deal, “the company will actively monitor and provide oversight of what’s going on with Tiktok,” according to one anonymous NPR source, who added that the goal of the agreement is to “minimize Chinese ownership.”

Microsoft’s reported involvement is not yet clear that it is “participating in conversations.” The company was also in the mix with Oracle and Walmart in a 2020 bid to take on Tiktok Contact Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates “Poison(ed) a cup.” Walmart is reportedly not sharing this time “beyond the estimated price” for the app.
