ChatGPT Users can now store, browse and retrieve files they upload and create using the AI tool OpenAI Announce this week.
All documents you upload within the regular chat window are automatically saved to the library, as long as you are signed in to your account. Now you can search and drag documents into one central place.
The feature is limited to More, Bro And business users, so you’ll have to pay at least $20 per month to store files using the ChatGPT library. You also must be connected to the Internet to access your files.
(Disclosure: Ziff Davis, the parent company of CNET, in 2025 filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that it infringed Ziff Davis’s copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.)
If you turn on the memory feature in ChatGPT, the chatbot can also refer to files you saved to bring up in future chats.
OpenAI lists documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and images as supported file types. However, images you create with ChatGPT will remain in the Images tab.

To use the Library feature, sign in to your account and click the plus sign on the left side of the window where you type commands. Select the “Add from Library” option to choose the file you want to show.
The library appears in the searchable left sidebar. You can filter results by file type and whether you uploaded or created the file.
There are some file size limitations. The maximum file size is 512MB, and all documents and chat conversations are limited to 2 million characters (characters). Spreadsheets and CSV files must be 50MB or smaller, and images must be 20MB or smaller.
Deleting files is a bit difficult. You can select a file in the Library window and click Delete or use the trash icon next to the file name. OpenAI will then delete the file within 30 days, unless the company needs it for security or legal reasons, or if the chat has already been “de-identified and disconnected from you.”
Recently, it was OpenAI and refine their models Expanding services for programmers and developers, with faster models suitable for debugging. OpenAI announced these improved models as the company competes with competitors that offer programming-specific tools, such as Anthropic’s Claude Code.
OpenAI executives also spoke Building a “super app” A desktop interface that consolidates its AI tools in one place. The three tools included in the application are ChatGPT, Codex, and Atlas Internet BrowserWhich uses artificial intelligence as an assistant.
The company also announced this week that it would do so I closed the AI video app Sora As it moves away from video creation and toward more programming and productivity tools, like Codex.
