Nintendo announces a new Star Fox for Switch 2

It turns out Fox McCloud appeared in Super Mario Galaxy movie It was a tease of things to come: Nintendo just surprisingly announced the first new product Star Fox Game in a decade. The name of the game is simple Star Foxand will be released very soon, starting on June 25th.

Nintendo says it’s “based on” the classic space shooter Star Fox 64But with redesigned characters and improved visuals. Basically, it feels like a remake of the game with the same level design. Based on a first look at the game, it looks quite modern, with incredibly detailed characters, including a surprisingly realistic slippery frog. And yes, the joke stays on board. In addition to the flying ships, there will be a few other vehicles to drive, including a submarine.

the Star Fox The reboot also includes some new features, such as online play for the new four-on-four multiplayer battle mode, and the option to play using mouse controls. Perhaps the most surprising addition is the realistic character avatars that players can use while playing online. Nintendo describes the features as “an interactive avatar that mirrors your expressions and movements in GameChat.” But if you’re looking for an old school feel, the game supports the N64 controller.

The announcement comes at a time when Nintendo has a relatively sparse Switch 2 lineup for the rest of 2026. Aside from Star Fox, the only first-party titles on the schedule are Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Rhythm sky groove, Splatoon Raidersand Fire Emblem: Weave of Luck.
