New on Hulu in April 2026: ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ reboot, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ series and more


Holo‘s popularity can be attributed to its wide range of great old TV shows and movies, and some high-profile original shows, including Only Murders in the Building, Paradise, and The Handmaid’s Tale. The platform’s collaboration with FX has also produced some of the platform’s most iconic and popular shows, including The Bear, Reservation Dogs, and Shogun.

This April, if you’re looking for a laugh, you can watch the new original film Pizza Movie starring Gaten Matarazzo and Stranger Things’ Sean Giambrone, the new comedy special Nikki Glaser: Good Girl or the highly anticipated reboot, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair.

Also released in April is the new series The Covenants, a continuation of the dystopian world that began with The Handmaid’s Tale. Based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel of the same name, The Covenants is set years after The Handmaid’s Tale, and co-stars One Battle After Another actors Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, and Ann Dowd. The Testaments (first of three episodes)

Based on the novel by Margaret Atwood, The Covenants is a spin-off of The Handmaid’s Tale that takes place several years after the end of that show. The Covenants stars Chase Infinity as Agnes, a devout young woman from Gilead, and Daisy, a newcomer to the town — both of whom attend the school run by Aunt Lydia (Emmy Award-winner Ann Dowd, who is back to crack down on more future Handmaids who step out of line). The series begins airing with three episodes on April 8, with new episodes arriving weekly until May 27.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, Season 1

Malcolm in the Middle, the beloved sitcom that ran from 2000 to 2006, is back. In the rebooted miniseries, Frankie Muniz returns to the lead role as Malcolm, who is now happily living with his girlfriend and daughter, away from his chaotic and dysfunctional family. He reluctantly brings them to meet his parents Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) after they request his presence for their 40th anniversary celebration. The roles of Malcolm’s brothers Francis and Reese were reprized by Chris Masterson and Justin Berfield, but Eric Pere Sullivan, who played Dewey, was reported to have left the cast and was replaced by Caleb Ellsworth Clark. We’ll also see Jimmy and Kelly, Hal and Louis’ youngest children, now played by Anthony Timpano and Vaughan Murray.

Not only is the film celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, but the sequel, starring most of the original cast, is set to debut in theaters on May 1. Pizza Movie is a Hulu action-adventure comedy about two college students who endure the wildest night of their lives while searching for pizza. Gaten Matarazzo and Sean Giambrone play roommates who take a dose of a mind-bending experimental drug that turns an ordinary meal of pizza into a hallucinogenic epic. Lulu Wilson, Sarah Sherman, Jack Martin and Peyton Elizabeth Lee also star in the film, which premieres April 3.

In 2018, a young Seattle airline employee named Richard “Bebo” Russell stole a commercial plane while on the job, took it on a 70-minute flight and deliberately crashed it on a remote island off the coast of Washington. Russell was going through a crisis that led to his death. ABC’s new documentary #SKYKING aims to understand what he was dealing with and the decisions that led to Russell taking to the sky that day. The original feature-length documentary arrives on Hulu on April 14.

Executive produced by horror author Mike Flanagan, Shelby Oakes is a supernatural horror film from writer-director Chris Stockman. Mia (Camille Sullivan) tries to locate her sister Riley, who disappeared years ago while investigating an abandoned town called Shelby Oaks. The film is a narrative story that also contains found footage of Riley helping Mia piece together her whereabouts. This footage was initially released on YouTube And used as part of the film’s marketing campaign. Shelby Oaks was released theatrically in 2025 and is available on Hulu on April 17.

Nikki Glaser: Good Girl (Hulu Original)

Comedian Nikki Glaser has gained a global audience in recent years thanks to her two-time stint as host of the Golden Globe Awards. (She’ll host three times in 2027.) Glaser returns to her comedy roots in her new special Good Girl, which premieres exclusively on Hulu on April 24. Good Girl is Glaser’s fifth comedy special, filmed in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.
