Microsoft’s Steam-like browser overlay is now available on Windows 11

Microsoft is rolling out the new in-game browser overlay on Windows 11 this week, next Months of beta testing. Microsoft Edge Game Assist is a widget that appears in the Game Bar in Windows 11 very similar to Valve’s Steam browser. It’s also game-aware, so it can detect which games you’re playing and provide tips and guides in a small side panel.

The Game Assist overlay was previously limited to beta users, but is now available Now available in stable version From Microsoft Edge. If you want to enable the in-game browser, you can open Microsoft Edge and go to Settings & More > Settings then search for Game Assist and install the tool. Game Assist will then be available in the Game Bar, which can be opened using the Windows key + G.

“The Game Assist preview provides tips and contextual guides for select popular PC games as we improve the experience based on your feedback,” explains William Devereux, senior product manager at Microsoft Edge. Microsoft has also added support for the most popular PC games, including Indiana Jones and the Grand Circle, marvel Rivals, and Dragon Age: Veil.

“We will be adding tips and guides for the most popular games throughout the preview period and over time,” says Devereux. “In the meantime, you can still use Game Assist to browse your favorite guides or other websites while playing any game.”

Game Assist works using the same cookies, autofill, and favorites data from the main Microsoft Edge browser. Microsoft has also added support for add-ons like ad blockers to the Game Assist feature, and plans to add support for keyboard shortcuts in the future, along with an improved picture-in-picture experience and the ability to add a tab from Microsoft Edge to the sidebar.
