Windows 11 updates could soon include fixes for more security issues at once. Microsoft said in Blog post on Thursday that it is now using artificial intelligence to “identify potential issues early,” which means “customers will see a greater volume of security updates included in each security release.”
Hackers, even amateurs, have Artificial intelligence has been increasingly used to quickly exploit security vulnerabilities over the past few months. Security researchers also use AI to find issues faster, resulting in high-risk vulnerabilities appearing more frequently, e.g Exploit “Copy Failed”. Which affected almost every Linux distribution in May. Likewise, when Anthropic announced it Claude Mythos model Earlier this year, it claimed that Mythos had already found high-risk vulnerabilities in “every major operating system.”
Microsoft says it’s updating its secure development lifecycle to ensure it “explicitly takes into account potential AI-enabled attack techniques and exploitation paths.” It is also making investments “to ensure that update quality is not compromised as we gain speed,” including integrating artificial intelligence more throughout the security updates process. Additionally, Microsoft says it is “investing in new technology including Windows-specific tools and utility tools” that will help create and validate security fixes using artificial intelligence, while “keeping humans on the same page when it comes to code review.”
Microsoft confirmed that although artificial intelligence will now be more involved in identifying and resolving security issues, developers will continue to verify these findings and “make risk-based decisions” about updates.
