Microsoft’s first advanced inferential AI is here

Microsoft announced a bunch of new internal AI models at Build 2026, including a new “flagship” model: MAI-Thinking-1. It’s an ambitious step toward prototyping for Microsoft, which has presented its own internal prototypes last year – Before that, it was based on OpenAI models.
