Microsoft is leaning into agentic AI with a planned revamp of its AI assistant, Co-pilotAccording to a new report from Information. The always-on copilot, when launched, will be able to complete tasks for you, unlike the widespread OpenClaw platform.
OpenClawthe open source platform for creating artificial intelligence agents, took the leap Amnesty International agent has been in the spotlight since its release, and major AI players are jumping to the forefront. Nvidia recently released its own benchmark suite, Nemoclawwhich provides some much-needed security guardrails that OpenClaw does not currently have, such as the ability to track all actions taken by an AI agent. This was followed shortly after by Anthropic announcing that subscribers with certain plans could get them Claude performs tasks On their behalf.
The popularity of OpenClaw seems to have piqued Microsoft’s interest as well. Omar Shaheen, vice president of Microsoft, told The Information that the tech giant is looking into technologies similar to OpenClaw. According to the report, the sources also said that Microsoft is working to make these technologies more secure.
Safety is a concern with OpenClaw. There are almost no security or privacy measures in place, which makes the platform feel like the Wild West. That’s why the likes of NemoClaw exist, so Microsoft’s prioritization of safety is no surprise if Copilot’s new enterprise software is expected to be rolled out.
The proxy version of Copilot may be able to access your email and calendar to create a to-do list for you each day. This is likely just the beginning of the tool’s functionality, with more features to follow and further integration into Microsoft products.
We probably won’t have much longer to wait before we see the new co-pilot, either. The Microsoft Build developer conference is scheduled to take place June 2-3where artificial intelligence will undoubtedly be the primary focus. If Microsoft can succeed in producing a more secure proxy assistant with Copilot, it could steal some of OpenClaw’s attention.
Microsoft representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
