Meta is raising the prices of its virtual reality headsets due to the rising cost of the company’s memory chips Announce Thursday. Starting April 19, the price of the Meta Quest 3S (128GB) and Meta Quest 3S (256GB) will increase by $50 to $349.99 and $449.99, respectively. The price of Meta Quest 3 has increased by $100 to $599.99.
“We are making this change because the cost of building high-performance VR hardware has risen dramatically,” Meta wrote in her blog post. “The global rise in prices for critical components — especially memory chips — is impacting nearly every category of consumer electronics, including virtual reality. To continue to deliver the quality of hardware, software, and support you expect from the Quest platform, we need to adjust our pricing.”
The company says the updated prices will also apply to refurbished Meta Quest units, but all Meta Quest accessories will remain at their current prices.
Meta is the latest tech company to raise hardware prices in response to RAM shortages, joining peers like Samsung, Microsoftand Sony.
